I don't know if this is going to turn into a real post or not. I just haven't been into writing lately. There's nothing interesting to say. My best ideas usually occur when I'm driving or something. Then, when I find myself in front of the computer, I can't recall what I had earlier wanted to share.
I did promise to tell you about the baby shower gift I was excited about giving Stacey…
A jogging stroller! She and Greg had picked out a pretty cool looking one at Target, so I ordered it online. (Tom wondered what the neighbors thought if they noticed the box sitting outside our front door) (Note: I guess I'm not worried about having large, bulky boxes shipped to the house, but small electronics? Never again!) Anyway, Stacey was very happy about the stroller and it warmed my heart when she asked hopefully, "Does that mean you will run with me?" I told her yes, that I would like to try running again and figured the stroller might slow her down just a bit.
The shower was very nice, by the way, and I did get to visit with some friends that I don't see very often. I also won a game, much to my surprise. (Yes Jenn, there were games) Stacey got lots of tiny pink clothing and other baby accessories. Her little girl is going to be very well-dressed.
As long as I'm recounting the weekend, I might as well keep going.
Dinner at Thai Fuji was a great success. Joy and I both thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant. We ordered two appetizers and two meals, splitting everything. First we had Thai spring rolls and chicken satay. (peanut sauce. Mm.) For our entrées we ordered Panang curry with chicken (I was thinking of you, Lotta!) and Teriyaki beef. Both were excellent. The service was great, the restaurant was clean, the food was wonderful. I definitely want to go back soon.
I did get to sleep in on Sunday morning. But the relaxing and catching up on chores didn't happen because I determined that a trip to Target was crucial. I have been wanting a Dyson vacuum cleaner for several years, ever since they first appeared in the states. Recently, I compared the different models and determined the one that had the tools and options that I wanted. The DC14 Drive is only sold at Target. Lately Target has been featuring a different Dyson model in their weekly ad. The cleaner itself isn't on sale, but you get a $50 Target gift card when you buy the machine. As you can guess, this week's featured model was none other than the DC14 Drive. (it has special attachments for vehicle cleaning) After reading the tiny print declaring Limited Quantities No Rain Checks I called the MI store and asked them to hold one for me. The last time I had made up my mind to buy a Dyson from Target (it was a Special Edition model and it was PINK!) they sold out while I contemplated whether or not I should spend the bucks.
So I now own a Dyson vacuum cleaner. And I haven't even had time to take it out of the box yet! Which amazes Tom because he is like a little kid on Christmas whenever he gets something new. He has been known to ask me to drive so he can start taking his new toy out of it's box and start putting it together on the ride home.
We did mountain bike ride at The Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, in New Smyrna. Tom, Dallas, Matt, Vicky and I rode two 6.5 miles loops. I've never done that before. Usually we ride one loop. But when we ride at Econ it ends up around 11-12 miles, so there was no reason to think we couldn't do it. I did ride the first loop more aggressively, then took it a bit easier on the second. At one point the wind was blowing from the north and we could hear the cars racing in the Daytona 500. Wild!
Oh, rehearsal went pretty well on Saturday, despite a sticky third valve. I had to get up extra early in order to get the horn functioning again. The B-flat trigger and the first two valves were happy enough, once I gave them a little bit of oil. The third, not so much. It was giving me a bit of a problem, but I determined that the string had stretched. During our first break I set about fixing that and the horn performed perfectly for the rest of rehearsal. That's not to say that I did. But I played better than I had expected to and didn't end up embarrassing myself. Though I'm not particularly excited about any of the music we're playing and I ended up with several fourth horn parts. Bleh. I don't need to play first, but I don't really enjoy the fourth part.
Last, and possibly least, I did end up going to Speedworld on Friday night. Lisa did not go. (lucky girl) I decided that since I'd already planned on going, I might as well. Plus, Tom really owes me now. What girly event shall I drag him to? It wasn't as bad as I had expected. In fact, I was rather enjoying it in the beginning. Then there was a spill or something that had to be cleaned up and while that went on (and on) I began to get cold and suddenly it wasn't fun any more. Fortunately, Tom had had enough about an hour after I had, so he, Carl and I left. We went to 5 & Diner and I must say, while I really like that diner, it's not much fun for someone on a low fat, low calorie diet.
Hm. I guess I did have something to say.
