34B, In Case You Were Wondering

Yesterday was a pretty good day. Probably because I got to leave work early due to a doctor's appointment. About a month ago I discovered a round lump in my right hand, at the base of the pinky finger. A little ball, not bothersome, just suddenly there. But it has grown a little bit since its appearance and is now causing some pain, particularly when I play tennis. We can't have that now, can we.

I had to see my primary care physician first, naturally, and he refers to the lump as a nodule and believes that it has developed in a nerve or nerve casing. He is referring me to a hand specialist, also naturally, and mentioned two possible courses of action. I might be given a cortisone shot or the doctor might do a small surgery to remove the lump. Lots of speculation going on here.

I kind of hope for the surgery, mainly because I want to see just what the lump looks like. That's kind of weird and creepy huh.

Now, I love my new primary care doctor and his office. My appointment was at 2:00 and I was in my car and driving away by 2:15. Amazing! He's actually a pulmonary specialist, in addition to general medicine, so they don't overbook the office. Brilliant concept.

My next stop was Merritt Square Mall. Right before the mountain biking trip I bought a pair of jeans in Macy's and I was hoping to buy another pair, but in a darker blue. I did find a pair, not exactly the same, but pretty close so that was good. I also bought a super cute pair of sandals. Which was funny to me because yesterday we were experiencing record low temperatures and most people were more inclined to buy boots than sandals. But they caught my eye and I had to have them.

But the best thing that happened at Macy's yesterday was that, in support of October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they were having a bra fitting event:

"Receive a complimentary fitting in a Wacoal bra from a Wacoal fit specialist. For every woman that participates*, Wacoal will donate $2 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for breast cancer research and outreach programs. Wacoal will also donate an additional $2 for every Wacoal bra purchased at these events."

The woman was fabulous and really knew her stuff. When I went into the fitting room I was carrying a Warner bra that interested me. Even though she represents Wacoal, the fit specialist immediately had me try on the Warner bra. Then she went out and came back with a handful of different brand bras. I learned several things that explained why I had yet to find a bra that worked for me and was comfortable.

First, while I had the correct band size, I had the wrong cup size. Second, when you slip your fingers under the straps and pull up, you should only be able to pull up one inch. (explains why I spend all day every day yanking up my bra straps) and last, you should always use the middle hook(s). (she didn't tell me why on that one)

They say that 8 out of 10 women are in the wrong size bra. How about you? Are you wearing the right bra?

I ended up buying three bras, one of which was a Wacoal.

When I finally left Macy's I was on my way to early voting. I figured I would vote in Merritt Island, on my way home. The parking lot was pretty crowded, but I had expected crowds. I found a space, entered the building and made my way to the back of a very long line. I quickly realized that I should have voted before my mall excursion, when I would have arrived before many of the after work voters. I'm not sure how long I was in line when a man walked past us talking on his cell phone and saying something about a 2.5 hour wait. Uh… 2.5 hours? That was more than I had bargained for, so I gave up and headed back to my car.

I think I will try again on Friday afternoon. Hopefully, being the end of the work week and Halloween, there won't be quite as large a crowd. At any rate, I will come more prepared. I'll have a freshly powered battery in my iPhone, several TV shows to watch and my earphones. I might bring a bottle of water, a foldable stool and maybe a snack. And comfortable shoes.

Thanks for all the bra info. The last time I went for a fitting at VS the sales gal measured me, tilted her head thoughtfully and said, "Now, where do we keep those"?

A great bra can really make all the difference, though.
