I fly to Ann's this evening and I'm nearly ready to go. I have taken care of lots of details today. I went to the bank and got cash, mailed off some last minute items, paid the upcoming bills. I still have to finish packing and I will only have about an hour when I get home from work to do that. It shouldn't be a problem as I have most of my clothes laid out next to my suitcase and most of my toiletries already stowed. I hate packing. It totally stresses me out. I never know what to bring and I never think that my stuff will fit in the suitcase. Sure hope I'm still wrong about that, because it's not looking very promising, in my opinion.
I hate flying, particularly alone. It's not that I'm afraid to fly, I just hate the whole process. Starting with packing, naturally. What to check, what to carry on. I'm checking one suitcase and carrying on my matching travel case and a small tote, into which I will load my tiny purse, a book, my iPod and a few other items. Oh, yeah, I will have to drag along a coat as well.
Next is the stress of deciding what time to arrive at the airport. I don't want to be late, nor do I want to be super early. Hanging out at the gate can get mighty boring. Then having to schlep everything to the restroom is a pain, since there won't be anyone to watch my stuff.
Once I'm on the plane, it gets marginally better. No more decisions to make, other than which tiny can of beverage I would prefer. Hopefully I won't have a chatty seat mate. I'm too exhausted to make polite conversation. I do have a connecting flight in Atlanta and an 1.5 hour layover, which will give me time to find dinner. I'm sure I'll have to schlep my stuff into the restroom again as well.
I will have plenty to keep me busy on the plane. My iPod is loaded with Christmas tunes and audiobooks, my iPhone contains one movie, four TV shows and lots of games and I also have a brand new book, purchased just for this occasion. And of course, there's always sleep…
My flight is scheduled to arrive in Charlotte at 11:40. Ann will meet me in the baggage claim area, we'll find my suitcase, load up and head to her house. I'll probably fall asleep during the drive there. Hope she doesn't mind.
