Yesterday, I went to the gym after work and I was determined to have energy, work hard and get the most out of my time. Because really, I don't love going to the gym. In fact, I don't even like going to the gym. So giving my workout a half hearted attempt is simply a waste of time. And who has time to waste? Not me.
I hurried over the to gym with the intent to grab Robocop before anyone else could. But the machine was already occupied. Drat. But I slyly observed the woman on the machine and she didn't look like she was really into her workout. The only way to use Robocop is to really work it. He's super tough and it's not possible to fake a workout. This woman was definitely just going through the motions, so I didn't think she would last very much longer. So I grabbed the stepmill right next to her and warmed up, keeping a close eye so that no one else could swoop in ahead of me.
Within six minutes she had stopped and was wiping down the machine. I didn't knock her down to get to Robocop, but I moved as quickly as was gym polite. I settled in, chose some music on my iPod and got to work. This time I set the time for 15 minutes, remembering the automatic 5 minute cool down, and worked really hard for 20 minutes. At the ended I felt good about the effort I had put into my workout.
Once I got home I was pretty busy looking over the mail, showering, working a bit on freelance, going to Publix, preparing dinner and whatnot. After eating I relaxed on the couch to watch TV and that was it. I was done. I often multi-task while watching TV. Folding laundry and puttering around keeps me going, but with nothing else to occupy me, I was good for nothing the rest of the evening.
