Our summer storms held off for another night, so I was able to attend the drills clinic. The clinic has been rained out for the past two weeks and it was good to get back out on the court with the group. We had 11 last night: 4 adults, 7 teens.
Things did not go all that well for me, however. During one exercise, the girl in front of me missed the ball and it hit the ground, then bounced straight into my right eye. Wow. Was that ever painful! And it hurt for the longest time, too. Every time I tried to open the eye it watered and stung. Then my left eye felt sympathetic and had to water too. Someone gave me an ice pack and I held that to my eye for ten minutes or so. Finally I was able to keep both eyes open, but it was probably another 15 minutes before I could rejoin everyone on the courts. I was a little off kilter after that and didn't hit very well for the rest of the session. Boo.
I didn't even get a black eye! At least that would have been interesting and might have garnered a little sympathy. Of course, I would've had to come up with a more impressive story to tell when asked how I got the shiner.
How's that eye?
