Today is the 40-year anniversary of man stepping foot on the moon. There's been lots of news about the occasion in the local papers these past several days. As part of the celebration, a group here at KSC was handing out mini Moon Pies at the entrance to the cafeteria. I'm not particularly a big Moon Pie fan, but I decided it was practically un-American to miss out on one, today of all days.
The weekend was good, over all. A nice combination of fun, sports, good eats and time spent with Tom, balanced out with some yard work and computer time. It wasn't all fun and games, but the percentage was higher, for sure.
We did get a lot of rain this weekend. The usual summer weather pattern. The hotter it gets, the earlier the storms roll in.
On Saturday I spent some time out front with the electric trimmers, shaping the golden mound to the best of my ability. Let's just say that I would never be hired to trim the topiary characters at Disney World. Nevertheless, they look so much better now. I did have to race a storm and had just gotten the electrical stuff put away when the rain came down. On Sunday I was back at it again, this time shaping the topiary trees on either side of the office window. If I had it all to do again, I'm not sure I would choose those trees. They really require a lot of upkeep and will look shaggy again in no time. I also finally admitted defeat and yanked up the dead crown of thorns. They suffered in a freeze this past winter and just couldn't recover. One of them managed to survive and a miniature plant has started thriving. I clipped off the dead stuff and it appears okay. The yard looks so much better now, I keep stepping back to admire it. I would enjoy yard work a lot more if it weren't so blazing hot. Bah.
