Another weekend has flown by. Those two days move much faster than any two days of the work week for sure. It was a mixed bag sort of weekend. Not terrible, but not spectacular either. The weekend also started late, as I had to work overtime on Friday afternoon. We are crazy with work right now and need the overtime just to catch up a little. Between the two people we lost last year and one person currently out on medical, we are all spread a bit too thin.
I spent some of the weekend watching new shows that I've recorded. Most have been pretty good. This is not really welcome news because I watch far too much television as it is these days. That's the downside of Tivo. I don't have to worry about missing anything, so I record everything.
Let's see… I liked Eastwick. It's based on the movie, which I saw so long ago I basically don't remember much. While it didn't get the best reviews, I found it enjoyable. Mercy is another show that I liked. I didn't expect to though. It has a lot in common with HawthoRNe - the brash main character, speaking her mind and getting in trouble, the pretty sidekick and the new, naive girl. I thought it was going to be a cheap imitation, but it was different enough from the first series that I think I'll keep watching. The Forgotten is the one that I might ditch. It seems like it's trying to be Cold Case's cousin. All the characters seem to have dark, hidden secrets, which I find more annoying than intriguing.
Saturday morning I skipped tennis. Between playing Tuesday (doubles), Wednesday (clinic) and Thursday (sub for singles), I was really tired. Combined with not getting enough sleep during the week, I just couldn't stand even the thought of getting up early. Once I did get up, I puttered around the house and did some computer work. After lunch I went outside and washed my car. I spied a weed in a flower bed, which led to another and before I knew it I was trimming bushes and clipping the jasmine. As a result, I got pretty far into my current audiobook.
Sunday morning I did get up early for bike riding. But poor Tom wasn't able to go. He had awoken at 5:00 with a very bad headache and couldn't make it get any better. So he stayed home to nurse his head while I met the bike gang at Cocoa Village.
Instead of doing both sides of River Road, we altered our route quite a bit. From the Village, we headed east over the Indian River, went south on S. Tropical Trail, then Crooked Mile, which dumped us out onto S. Tropical again. We continued south until we reached Pineda, then headed west back over the river and across US 1 to Wickham. Next we headed north, then turned right onto Pinehurst, another right onto Holiday Springs, which ended at Viera Blvd. That took us back to US 1 and we rode just about a half mile before turning onto the south end of River Road (technically Rockledge Drive) and heading back to the Village. The whole trip was just over 27 miles. That's not even our usual average, but there was a fairly strong wind from the west which made it all seem quite a bit harder.
The rest of Sunday was pretty laid back, involving more TV watching and a nap. Also a trip to Publix and Arby's.
