The Monday after a long weekend is always tough. But the good thing about the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend is that an even longer break isn't very far away.
My Thanksgiving holiday weekend wasn't worth writing about, so I'll keep it brief.
I did give myself a break on Wednesday. When I got home from work, I stayed away from the office entirely. Instead, I lounged in the spare bedroom and caught up on some of my TV watching. It was a gray, rainy afternoon and perfect for lazing around. I finished up the last of the olive hummus and wished I had thought to buy more because wild horses couldn't drag me to Publix on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Early evening, Tom and I went to Lowe's, then picked up Arby's on the way home.
Thursday was actually a work day. I pretty much stayed in the office until time to get ready for dinner at Tom's grandmother's house. We had dinner, exchanged Christmas wish lists, the usual.
In the mean time, the weather had cleared up and cooled off.
Which leads to Friday morning and an insane idea to road bike from Cocoa Village. Tom and I would much rather have mountain biked, but Alex's parents were visiting from Puerto Rico and he didn't want to abandon them for half the day, so road biking was the plan. It sucked. It was incredibly clear, but chilly and windy. The entire ride I felt miserable, out of breath, with a constantly running nose. We had ridden the north side and fortunately, no one felt motivated to ride the south side as well. So we quit riding, thank goodness, and went to Murdock's for lunch.
I really don't care that much for Murdock's, even though everyone else seems to love it. I adore the fried olives, but other than that, I haven't found anything on their menu yet that thrills me. This visit I had grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. Still not thrilled. Though the soup was quite good, the grilled cheese was weird, used some kind of strange bread and wasn't very melty. I didn't imagine that they could screw up grilled cheese, but they managed.
By the way, Alex and Jeanene had both children with them and I have to say that my predictions regarding Ainara are panning out so far. She is such a laid back and happy baby. She loves to be held and just wants to look around, quietly. She wasn't in any hurry to be born and she's still taking it easy.
While I don't participate in Black Friday shopping, I did make a trip to the Hallmark store after we got back from biking. I chose ornaments for the children that I buy for and a couple of rolls of wrapping paper. But struck out with cards, as I didn't find anything that I liked from their meager selection. I spent the rest of the day working on the computer until it was time for our usual Friday night pizza. Then I went back to work and ended up staying up until 2 am.
I obviously had a late start on Saturday, but did spend most of the day doing freelance. I took a break in the afternoon, just to get outside for a bit, and trimmed the robellini palm. I cut a huge pile of fronds and really cleared out the plant. In the evening, Tom and I went to Avenue Viera and I found some Christmas cards that I liked at the Hallmark there. Then we went to Red Lobster for dinner.
On Sunday I decided to start with the yardwork because once I get started on the computer, I have a hard time stopping. So I got out the electric trimmers and went to town on the plants underneath the robellini. I trimmed everything way back, like I should have done during the summer. I can't believe how much light comes in the dining room window now. I half-heartedly attempted some more freelance, but honestly, was pretty burned out on it. I spent the rest of the evening taking it easy and getting organized for the beginning of a new and exciting work week.
That wasn't exactly brief, was it?
