Typically, we're barely two days into the week and I'm already looking forward to the weekend. The fact that it's a holiday weekend makes it even more alluring. Plus, I am also taking Friday off, so four-day weekend!
I don't have anything in particular planned, just wanted a day off to myself. There's loads of things on my Maybe To Do list, but I'm not committing to anything yet.
Despite lots of rain, this past weekend was pretty good. It started with a different sort of pizza on Friday night. Still Valentino's, but a different combo. See, the week before, I was involved in a blood test (iron deficiency anemia again) in which I could not eat red meat. Since the listed meats that I was allowed to eat were chicken and turkey, I didn't want to chance it with the pepperoni. I ordered mushrooms and black olives on my quarter and it was really, really tasty! So I ordered it again this past Friday.
On Saturday morning, I got up early and was out on my walk by 7:30. For the most part it was pleasant. Warm, yes, but there were off and on clouds which helped. I also brought along a bottle of frozen water. Instead of the sling style pack I bought back in March, I took the bladder out of an old hydration pack and used it as a backpack. I couldn't get the sling pack adjusted right and it looked really stupid on me. Yes, fashion is important when you're out walking. Anyway, despite Tom's assurance that the ice would melt by the time I was thirsty, it didn't, due to the padded insulation of the hydration pack. I should have taken the bottle out of the freezer sooner. So I held it for part of the time, encouraging it to melt through the heat in my hands. Not entirely a bad thing. In the end I logged in 7.27 miles. Working toward that half marathon!
The rest of the day was spent napping and lazing around. It started raining around 2:00 or so and didn't let up for the rest of the day. I was happy enough staying indoors. I cleaned out and organized the kitchen utensil drawer and ended up with a plastic shoe box full of items we hardly use, which I stashed in a cabinet. It will be interesting to see if I ever need to get into that box for something.
I guess the walk and the organizing wore me out because we hit the hay at 9:00 Saturday night. We're such party animals, right? Because of going to bed so early, I woke up at 7:30, figured I'd gotten enough sleep, and got the day started early. I made a visit to Target and it was so pleasant to browse with so little customers. I think I spent an hour there.
The rest of Sunday was similar to Saturday. I noticed clouds gathering and considered working in the yard. Even though it would be hot, at least the sun wasn't beating down. But I got distracted with another project and when I started to hear distant rumbling I knew I had lost my opportunity to trim the plants in the front of the house. Electric clippers and lightning aren't a good combination. Instead, I worked on the west side of the house and was only out there about 30 minutes when it started to sprinkle. With that I gave up, went inside and showered, then spent the rest of the day watching TV in my room.
The US Open started yesterday so let the sleep deprivation begin! I was up until 11:00 last night. Not because I was watching tennis though. The evening was rained out so they were showing a match that happened earlier and I already knew the outcome. My problem was that I started playing a game on my iPad and could. not. stop. Treasures of Montezuma is very addictive. Just say no.
